Your data
Privacy Policy
Pathagara needs no account and runs no advertising. Signing in with Google is optional and only syncs your lists. This page explains what the site keeps, and why.
What we collect
You do not need an account to use Pathagara, and we never ask for a password. Signing in with Google is optional; it only lets your lists follow you across devices. The site handles the following:
| Information | Why | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Reading preferences, lists, recent searches and shelf | So the site remembers your text size, night mode, saved books and words. | Only in your own browser (local storage). We never receive it. |
| If you sign in with Google: your Google account ID, name, email address and profile photo, plus your word lists, book lists, notes and reading progress | To identify your account and keep your lists and reading progress in sync between your devices (web and, later, our mobile app). | Our database. We never receive your Google password. The signed-in session is an HttpOnly cookie (web) or token (app). |
| A random visitor ID and session ID, with book events (opened, page reached, time on page, saved, rated, shared) | To suggest similar books and see which books are read. | Our database. The ID is random and not linked to your name. |
| Latin letters you type in search | Odia spelling suggestions are worked out on our server. They answer the request and are not stored with your identity. | Not stored. |
| Your IP address | To limit abusive traffic (rate limiting) and keep the site available. | Held briefly in temporary server files, and in normal web server logs. |
What we do not do
- We do not sell or share your information, and we do not run advertising or third-party analytics. Account data is used only to provide sign-in and sync.
- We do not build a profile of who you are. The visitor ID is random and only helps recommendations.
- We do not ask for payment or personal documents.
Cookies and local storage
The site uses your browser's local storage for the preferences above. Clearing your browser data removes them and resets your visitor ID. If you sign in, one strictly necessary cookie (pth_session, HttpOnly, used only to keep you signed in) is set; it lasts up to 30 days of inactivity and is removed when you sign out.
Fonts and other services
Some pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google to fetch them. If you open the sign-in menu, your browser also loads Google's sign-in script (accounts.google.com). Google's privacy policy applies to those requests. No other third-party scripts are loaded.
How long we keep things
Book events are kept to keep recommendations useful and may be deleted or summarised over time. Web server logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting.
Your choices
- Clear your browser's site data to remove everything stored on your device.
- If you have an account, use the account menu to download a copy of your data, sign out of this device, or delete your account. Deleting removes your profile, lists, notes and reading progress from our servers.
- Email us if you would like reading events linked to your visitor ID deleted.
Children
Pathagara is a reading and reference site suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Changes
